Insurance – Season 2008
Insurance
The University Football Club, through the competition governing body, the Western Australian Amateur Football League, has an insurance policy that covers all FINANCIAL members of our club for injuries sustained whilst training or playing football for the UFC. To access this insurance, a player must have made a financial contribution to the club through their season’s membership fees. Part payment of fees still provides cover to a player in the event of an injury.
Full details of the cover held by the Club can be found at www.jltsport.com.au/afl along with the full details for making a claim. Unfortunately the UFC is not an insurance claim broker, therefore has no experience or capabilities to lodge a claim. All players who wish to make a claim are asked to do so with the help of the friendly staff at JLT sport. Please note all claims must be lodged within 180 days of the time of injury for the claim to be valid.
The UFC holds a Silver level of cover with JLT sport, along with the highest level of cover in the event of quad or paraplegia. To paraphrase this policy level, the insurance will cover a proportion of the medical expenses incurred due to an injury sustained whilst playing at the club, only in the event that no amount of the cost is covered by Medicare. Therefore only non-medicare expenses such as dentistry and physio for example are covered. The cover held also includes General & Products Liability and also Club Management Liability, which covers the club against any form of liability. Should you wish to make a claim please see the website above for details.
Of course the cover above does not provide full reimbursement for the cost incurred due to injury, therefore the University Football Club strongly suggests that all players take out their own private health care policy and also income protection arrangements in the event of lost time injuries.
For more details please contact JLT Sport directly via their website, or in the event of a Club issue arising, please contact Trent Smoker at trent_smoker@agas.com.au
