Match Reports: Week 7
A-Grade
CBC Fremantle 11.7 def University 7.9
The up and down weather conditions mirrored the up and down performance by the UFC A Grade side on the weekend. Fremantle CBC had some quality ball carriers who won the ball and finished cleanly in the blustery weather. UFC showed glimpses of the form that had seen the green machine win two tough games in a row prior to the CBC fixture, however this form could not be sustained throughout the whole match. Breen, Hogg, Rocket Sr and Jones all tried valiantly to keep the boys in it, though this was not enough, and with a few injuries from the game it looks like reinforcements will have to come in to return the boys to the winner’s circle.
A-Res
University 15.5 def CBC Fremantle 5.7
Needing to win the A-res boys were enthusiastic at training on Thursday and were pumped for Saturdays game and came out fired up. With the oldest bloke on the field kicking the first goal (Erk dog) the boys were away but CBC puled a few cheap ones back to go into quarter time level. The team needed a lift and plenty of boys started to then find the ball and some ticker and led by Dono at CHF the guys kicked 7 goals to one in what was our best quarter for the season. The 3rd quarter was tight but the boys managed to maintain the lead before kicking away in the last to eventually win by 58 points.
Great win by the boys with Dono, Connor Day, Scanners, Hally, Chris Kay and Si Caldow in the best.
Thirds
University 22.29 def Quinns District 0.0
After a great win against CBC last week, we came up against Quinn District, who after 6 games have a strangle hold on the wooden spoon. As has been the case all year the numbers in 3rds have been fantastic. It was highlighted this week when we had 14 guys who were rested. To the credit of most of them and a great sign of the team spirit, the guys that weren’t playing were down on the side lines supporting the team and making the day run smoothly for coaches and players. The game was played in wet and blustery conditions which made our 49 scoring shoots to nil even more impressive. We played some very good football against a very average side. The only glaring area for improvement was our conversion. Every one played well, with the players rotating heavily to ensure everyone got a fair run. The votes went to Harry Miller with 5 goals, AJ with 4 goals, JT, Morey and Weapons. This week take on Whitfords at Whitfords and we will be looking for seven wins on the trot.
Dingoes
University 19.14 def Quinns District 0.3
Twas a pretty shyte day for footy all round with the wind and rain making it difficult. The Dingoes wanted to take something out of playing the bottom side, in less than average conditions, so the call went out to practice what we preach at training in terms of our structure/game plan and our all important 1%ers, no U turns, punch to position, etc. We hit targets in the wet, kept our structure and didn’t end up with 40 blokes just chasing the footy, and we got the scoreboard moving. Full back was sent to full forward, and visa versa, with premiership full back Killer scoring four snaggers and somewhat rekindling his love affair for the snagger roll. Extreme_Chuck@hotmail.com, our Canadian import in his second game of AFL scored a goal late in the fourth and couldn’t wipe the smile off his face for an hour afterwards. We did aim to keep Quinns scoreless, but Doyle punched one through on their goal line in the third, thanks Doyle please bring a key to next week’s fines session.
We look forward to Whitfords next week where the great man Robbie O will be playing his 100th for the club.
A-Colts
CBC Fremantle def University by 5 points
No report from Junior (currently on prac) or Juddy (saw him at the Claremont Hotel last night, must’ve kicked on beautifully) but the boys had a disappointing loss in their big game against CBC. Uni was never able to hold the momentum and Big Junior ended up a fairly angry man by the end of it all. In fact, he hadn’t even settled down by Coaches’ Comments six hours later. Despite their first loss of the year, the A-Colts were still well represented at the AJ on Saturday night as they have been all year. No doubt they will be marking down the return fixture – Round 15 at McGillivray.
C-Colts
Uni 14.8 def Melville 2.5
The Gulls bounced back in superb style this weekend, defeating an ill-disciplined and surprisingly redneck opponent in Melville. The boys played in the wet for the first time this year, and proved that they could play in any condition really dominating the game. The first quarter saw great leadership by our fearless Captain Corke, leading the way from the backline and helped the gulls get out to a two goal to nothing lead. Two goals by the Metcat in the second quarter and two lucky goals by Melville meant they were still in touch. But the second half the Gulls put on 10 goals to nothing with the big CHF Pricey kicking 5 goals, 8-ball running riot through the middle with the assistance from the clubs biggest man – the giant 6′9″ ruckman in Jasper – and Hey Arnold continuing his great form across half back.
Votes 5. Hey Arnold 4.8-Ball 3.Pricey 2.Corke(c) 1. Jasper
