Match Reports – Week 19
A-Grade Round 18
University 9.12 def by Trinity Aquinas 15.6
It felt like finals footy came a week early as the tempo of this game was high paced from the start. TA’s applied frantic tackle pressure and it took the UFC all of the first quarter to settle into the contest, by which time TA’s had skipped away to a three goal lead. The UFC went hard at it, but it was one of those days where nothing went right. 21 scoring shots a piece showed that both sides had their chances, however TA’s played Billy Grayden Reserve in a smarter and more efficient manner.
Cruddi, Hoggy and Jesus led the way on the weekend. After a strong home and away the UFC now has a home elimination final next week. Good luck to all grades playing finals and well done on efforts of those sides that missed out.
A-Reserves Round 18
University 7.4 def by Trinity Aquinas 11.10
The boys were very focused coming into this game as a win would’ve put us into the finals. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be. TA’s are the best side in the comp (17 wins and one loss this year) and they proved to be too strong around the ground for us. Experienced heads like Scannas, Nicho (three goals) and Connor gave us a continual drive but we weren’t able to get enough decent forward-50 entries to get over them. The boys were disappointed, especially being the only Uni team not to make finals this season, but we are hoping for a bigger, better year next year. Thanks in particular to Erkdog for his leadership, to Rev and Sammy A.
A-Colts Round 18
University 4.9 def by Trinity Aquinas 7.16
A very disappointing day for the lads on the weekend as we were comprehensively beaten by a much more determined TA’s outfit on the weekend. Our boys didn’t turn up to play today and was evident missing three easy opportunities in the first quarter whilst TA’s started dominating the game. Apart from 10 minutes in the third quarter were the boys showed some spirit to kick some much needed goals we couldn’t put any pressure on the scoreboard.
After finishing second on the ladder, we have Wesley-Curtin in a Qualifying Final at McGillivray (10.45am) this Saturday and will go in knowing what we need to do to play our best footy.
From the President: Why not get down early this Saturday? Support the Colts before the A-Grade kick off later in the afternoon!
Brett Jones Colts Elimination Final
University 9.9 def by Collegians 9.12
It can be pretty hard to subdue Ducky and the boys, but Collegians finally managed it. This was the first time all year that Ducky spoke for less than fifteen minutes at Coaches’ Comments and also the first time he has failed to get his match report in. No doubt Rendog, Ducky and the boys are disappointed with the way the season ended. But they put up a terrific fight all year long and were less than a goal away from pushing deeper into the finals race. You should be proud of your year, boys.
A handful of the boys will be training through with the A-Colts in the finals and we also hope that those who are in their last year of Colts stick around to play at Uni next year.
From the President: Played your socks off this year, boys. Bad luck!
