Match Reports – Week 20

A Grade (Elimination Final)

University 8.10 def Wesley Curtin 7.7
What a cracking game! Both home and away fixtures with WC had been decided by under ten points, so a tough match was on the cards in the UFC’s highly anticipated return to finals footy. WC jumped out of the blocks to kick 3 of the first 4 as the attack on the ball was ferocious by both sides.

Rocket was doing a magnificent job on the dangerous Cooper, whilst Breen and Dunin’s tag-team on the opposition ruckman started to take its toll.  Woodsy, Hally, Jack and a host of other lads played superb games and were able to outlast WC in a tough, hard game of footy.

A narrow victory, which delighted the crowd, was a just reward for 100 minutes of persistent footy. Jesus was an unfortunate casualty, copping a severe blow to the head, which has seen our spiritual leader having to have an operation this week on his cheekbone.  Wishing Jesus a speedy recovery from all at UFC.  The lads raring to go for another great challenge this week.

A Colts (Qualifying Final)

University 6.14 def by Wesley Curtin 7.12
A very disappointing result for the A Colts boys this weekend, losing our chance to play for the grand final. Going into the game we felt that we had the cattle on the park and game plan in place to get us there. The start of the first quarter saw uni come out and play very determined football into a strong breeze but couldn’t kick any goals. WC ended up kicking 3 goals in quick succession which saw them take a three goal lead to quarter time.

The next two quarters saw WC increase their lead to 4 goals before our lads finally started playing our brand of footy and managed to get within four points. With several close chances missed in the last quarter combined with numerous mistakes throughout the game we were left to reflect what could have been. The positives coming away from the game was that we were no where near our best footy and almost won. Big game v Ta’s next week as we need to regroup and move forward as we attempt take the hard road through the final games.

Best Players: Matthew Greenwood, Emerson Walker, Tom Harding, Harry Donovan, Dave Mcleay

E Grade (Second Semi Final)

University 5.10 def by North Fremantle 9.5
The Thirds had plenty of opportunities on Saturday to move straight into a grand final, unfortunatley we weren’t able to grab those chances and North Fremantle made us pay.

E Reserves (Second Semi Final)

University 5.4 def by Wesley Curtin 13.5
The Dingoes knew what a great prize was on offer in this match and came out looking a very strong outfit. A couple of great running goals to John Simpson proved we were right in the hunt and around the ground the Dingoes were getting on top of Wesley Curtin. Kael Killer Williams was having an outstanding day down back hitting the contests at pace and we went into half time 2 goals up and feeling confident.

As the rain began to fall so did the intensity of the Dingoes and Wesley Curtin sensed their moment. We forgot how hard we needed to work and found ourselves  a couple down going into the final change. Despite kicking the first goal of the last quarter the disciplined unit that had played in the first half was nowhere to be seen and Wesley Curtin piled on the goals to win by about 35 points. A disappointing day for the boys.

The Dingoes know that anything worth having is bloody difficult to achieve and are raring to hit Mt Lawley this weekend.
