MATCH REPORTS
A-GRADE
Trinity-Aquinas 13.7 def University 10.15
Footy can be cruel at times, and Saturday’s game against Trinity Aquinas was one of those times. The game was best summed up by club legend Wiesey with his words after that game that “we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory”. To a man the lads tried their hardest and managed to dominant the possession all day, which gave us plenty of scoring opportunities, however it was just not meant to be as the ball kept going the wrong side of the goal posts. Kicking five goals and 10 behinds in the first half really came back to bite and in the end TA’s pipped us at the post to take out a close game.
Best players were hard to pick as there were so many fellas having a real crack. Mayo was great, Hally showcased his talents and Grabbas led all day. In the end it was obviously not quite meant to be this year, as evidenced by losing Cruddman and Jesus in the last two weeks. A huge well done to everyone involved for their herculean efforts this year. Time now for a few off-season ales before the lads will be jumping back on the horse again next year for the mighty UFC.
THIRDS
Trinity-Aquinas 7.8 def University 6.10
Uni 3rds headed down to Gil Fraser Oval for the second time in two weeks, this time to take on Trinity Aquinas in a preliminary final. Unfortunately we decided not to turn up until half time. The first half was all one way traffic and we were lucky to still be in the contest. We managed to tighten up in the third quarter but were still down by about 4 goals at three quarter time. We knew if we put the pressure on in the last, they would start to crack and that’s exactly what happened.
The boys played well and we were all over them. With a minute to go, a TA’s player kicked it out on the full on our forward 50. Cloon Dog kicked it in and Kano took a great mark but unfortunately wasn’t able to convert and we went down by four points. A really disappointing finish to what has been a great season.
DINGOES
Mt Lawley 8.6 def University 6.5
The Dingoes went out of the finals race in straight sets and were a disappointed bunch of Native Australian Dogs on Saturday. Despite being 2 goals up at the last break Mt Lawley ran over the top of us and won by two goals. In the end it was probably their superior use of the footy that pinned us down. They negated our running style for much of the game and had big strong targets up forward who managed to get on top late in the game.
Wooda was an absolute star at CHF who continually presented and won possession in dangerous positions and the entire backline were superb throughout (Saturday and all year) and can be extremely proud of their efforts.
No one came off the park without being able to hold their head high and say they gave it their best shot. We loved the competition and know that you can’t win ‘em all.
2010 has been a great year for the Dingoes and there are certainly exciting times ahead for the team.
A-COLTS
Trinity-Aquinas 16.6 def University 11.4
Nothing out of the A-Colts boys today but when you consider that Junior Rourke and Juddy started their weekend at 8am Saturday and didn’t finish until around 9pm on Sunday, that can be forgiven. Junior even managed to fit in a date on Sunday before coming to medal count so you’ve got to appreciate the all-round effort.
The A-Colts went down by about five goals, the major difference probably being the opposition’s key forward who kicked five himself in a pretty strong display. The game was a real see-saw with several shifts in momentum. However, it was their boys who got on top in the early part of the final quarter and the UFC couldn’t claw their way back. I believe the best player award went to Tom Harding.
The boys can rest assured that they don’t look 25 years old like a few of the TA’s Colts. We will age more gracefully.
